The East Midlands Lions 2022

World Class Players is taking elite junior hockey to the next level. Following the success of the UK Lions tournament which took place last year at Nottingham Hockey Centre, in which the East Midlands Boys team won the trophy competition for the first time, we’re delighted to announce the we’re opening applications for the first ever World Class Players squad.

The UK Lions Tournament has been running for over 25 years, and is regarded as the best U13 competition in the United Kingdom.

Squads are represented from all across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Previous players who have played in the tournament include Great Britain legend Barry Middleton, amongst a huge raft of other senior internationals.

Selection

To prepare for selection, there will be 6 evening training sessions in April, May and June, before the final squad of 18 players is selected for our Pre-Tournament Training Camps.

The training camps will embed our team culture, tactical set up and tournament preparation.

This will be the first time for many young players too experience a high-performance environment and the build up to a national 11-a-side competition.

Eligibility

• You must be playing in the East Midlands (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire).
• Your date of birth must be between 1st September 2008 – 31st August 2011.

Tournament

The tournament, all training and preparation camps will be held at Nottingham Hockey Centre.

We will enter 1 boys’ team and 1 girls’ into the Championship Competition, and 1 boys’ team and 1 girls’ team into the Trophy Competition as a development squad.

• 12^th May – 6:30pm-8:30pm

• 19^th May – 6:30pm-8:30pm

• 26^th May – 6:30pm-8:30pm

• 2^nd June – 6:30pm-8:30pm (the teams will be selected after this session)

• 11^th June – 10am-3pm preparation camp

• 18^th June – 10am-3pm preparation camp
  
• Friday 24th – Sunday 26th June – TOURNAMENT

Girls U13 UK Lions Tournament – 15^th – 17^th July at Nottingham Hockey Centre

• 19th May – 6:30pm-8:30pm

• 9^th June – 6:30pm-8:30pm

• 9^th July – 10am-3pm preparation camp

• 16^th June – 6:30pm-8:30pm

• 23^rd June – 6:30pm-8:30pm (the teams will be selected after this session)

Costs

6 week training block = £120.00 per player

2 preparation camps for selected players plus tournament costs = £180.00 per selected player

Home shirt, away shirt, shorts and pair of socks = £75.00 per selected player
